Abstract Jean Ritchie (1922-2015), was a Kentucky singer and song writer. She recieved a Fulbright scholarship in 1952 and 1953, to study the links between her family's music traditions and those from England, Ireland, and Scotland. Abstract Born in Hazard, Kentucky, Josiah H. Combs (1886-1960) grew up in Hindman where he learned many folksongs from family members, especially his mother. Katherine Jackson French Ballad Collection
